Works at Acle Bridge

From the Broads Authority:

Major sheet piling works along the river frontage are to be carried out at Acle Bridge 24 hour moorings starting at the end of February. The Broads Authority’s appointed contractor is in the process of mobilising to site after waiting for water levels to drop to a suitable level.

Phase one of major works at the site will be to completely renew 110 metres of sheet piling, plus installing a new mooring path and three electric charging points for boats. Works are planned to extend for several weeks beyond and including the Easter holiday period and involve the moorings, a section of the Weavers Way public footpath, car park and toilet area being closed. Signage and fencing on site will be placed to exclude people from those areas at all times during the construction phase.

There will be a 55 metre section of the mooring left open on the upstream end for boaters to moor to during the works. Footpath access from the mooring will only be available for pedestrians heading towards Oby and Thurne. The Weavers Way public footpath through the construction site will remain closed until project completion. Advance notices on the Weavers Way have been installed. Works will be closely monitored for progress and the Broads Authority will seek to open any areas of the site as soon as it is safe to do so.

To report any issues please contact Broads Control on 01603 756056.”

GNLP – consultation on possible new sites for development

Various sites for new housing were put forward in recent months. The Greater Norwich Local Plan team have looked at the sites and have decided that two sites in Acle are suitable for new housing; one west of the site for 137 homes between Norwich Road and Mill Lane, and another site west of Acle Academy between South Walsham Road and Mill Lane.

From UK Power Networks – preparing for the storm

You may have seen that Storm Ciara is on the way and we are likely to see high winds and heavy rain across the East of England and South East this weekend.

Our electricity network is built to be resilient but extreme weather can damage overhead power lines resulting in some customers losing their electricity supply.  Where this happens we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, and we have organised for additional staff in our contact centre and more engineers on the ground to be available to help customers whose electricity supply might be affected by the predicted weather.

You will be able to find regular updates on our website www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk and social media @UKPowerNetworks throughout this period.

Anyone experiencing a power cut should:

·         Call 105 to report power cuts and damage to the electricity network, or 0800 3163 105 (from a corded phone or mobile phone if you have no power)

·         Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk for the latest updates

·         Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/powercut and type in their postcode to view our live power cut map

·         Tweet @ukpowernetworks to report a power cuts or to receive updates

We advise people to stay clear of power lines and report damaged power lines immediately by calling 105 free from either a landline or a mobile phone. If they see electricity lines that are down or causing significant risk to the public they should call 999.

We provide extra help to customers on our Priority Service Register during a power cut.  Households with older or disabled people, those with children under five, or where someone uses medical or mobility equipment that requires electricity as well as other reasons can join the register.  You can find out more information about our Priority Service on our website: ukpowernetworks.co.uk/priority.
